According to the Orphanet Italia network, there are about 2 million rare patients in our country, and there are 19,000 new diagnoses every year. In most cases, these are pediatric patients, but there is a large number of rare diseases that occur only in adulthood and in old age. For these people there is still no proper attention, despite our country being an aging country.
Amyloidosis represents a large group of diseases characterized by the pathological accumulation, in the extracellular area, of insoluble protein material, called amyloid or amyloid substance. Generally, these are multisystem diseases that compromise the functionality of different vital organs, in particular the kidneys, heart, gastrointestinal system, liver, skin, peripheral nerves and eyes.
For this purpose, the FADOI Foundation, the Italian Scientific Society of Internal Medicine, is planning an update webinar on the diagnosis and management of this disease, with a focus on the different phenotypes.
